Marital status

The Pistoia State Archive Pistoia holds the Stato civile. The Pistoia State Archive Pistoia holds the Civil Registry files – Pistoia Court (1866-1903). (1866-1903).

– List of conscription (1840-1948).

The Pistoia Province Recruitment Lists file holds the Recruitment Lists (classes of 1880-1914). This archive holds as well the Recruitment Lists of the pre-Unification period and the Italian period of Valdinievole (classes of 1833-1879). The Recruitment Lists of the classes of 1842-1879 and the rest of the classes since 1879 are held at the Florence State Archive.

Matriculation sheets and roles

The Florence State Archive holds the Pistoia Military District (Draft Cards of 1871 class).

The State Archive of Siracusa preserves Civil status, registers of births, deaths, citizenship together with the series of the Annexes (the latter from 1866 onwards) of marriage and marriage publication acts; from the year 1820 to the year 2000 of the following municipalities: Augusta, Avola, Belvedere, Brucoli, Buccheri, Buscemi, Canicattini Bagni, Carlentini, Cassaro, Ferla, Floridia, Frankfurt, Lentini, Marzamemi, Melilli, Pachino, Priolo, Rosolini, Siracusa, Solarino, Sortino, Villasmundo.

Army census

The Institute holds the following archives: – Augusta Harbormaster, for the Navy Recruitment Lists (classes of 1822-1873); – Siracusa Harbormaster for the Navy Recruitment Lists (classes of 1900-1985); – Catania Harbormaster Navy Recruitment Office for the Navy Recruitment Lists (classes of 1933-1985); – Catania Recruitment Office for the Recruitment Lists (classes of 1840-1940). The files include the following cities: Augusta, Avola, Buccheri, Buscemi, Canicattini Bagni, Carlentini, Cassaro, Ferla, Floridia, Francofonte, Lentini, Melilli, Noto, Pachino, Palazzolo Acreide, Rosolini, Siracusa, Solarino and Sortino.

The Siracusa Military District holds the Draft Cards and military records (classes of 1845-1910) of the Siracusa, Ragusa and Catania circumscriptions.

Marital status

The Teramo State Archives preserve the Atti dello stato civile fund (1809-1910) containing the second copies produced by the municipalities of the province of Teramo of the registers of births, marriages, deaths and, from 1866, also of citizenship (mostly changes of residence) with relative alphabetical indexes. Apart from the registries of the 1809-1865 period, the archive gathers the Attached files, called “marriage processes”.

Draft lists

The Military District of Teramo fonds preserves the conscription lists (classes 1842-1949).

Matriculation sheets and roles

The Military District of Teramo fonds preserves the Matriculation Roles and the respective headings (1874-1937, until 1927 also the municipalities now in the province of Pescara), Roles for the Voluntary Militia for National Security (1910-1922) and Non-Commissioned Officer Roles (1858-1924).

The Institute provides a database for the consultation Draft lists 1842-1857 and 1880-1887. Matriculation rolls of the classes from 1874 to 1885.

The institute has made available online a database including the Draft lists and Matriculation Rolls of those enrolled who were born in the province of Teramo. The preserved draft lists refer to the classes 1842-1947, while the matriculation rolls include those born from the class of 1875 to the class of 1935. All matricular documentation is continuously updated due to the periodicity of payments by the Chieti Military District. The publication of the database on the web was made possible thanks to the collaboration with the Associazione per il Recupero e la Salvaguardia degli Archivi Storici Onlus (Association for the Recovery and Preservation of Historical Archives), based in Vicenza, which hosted the database on the Association’s website that can be accessed for consultation.

Civil registry

The Reggio Emilia State Archive holds several collections of great genealogic value:

– the series of the Civil Status and Registry Office of the Municipality of Reggio Emilia(1549-1814);

– the acts and registers of Civil Status and Registry of the archives of the Israelite University known as “New”(1769-1861);

– the Civil Registry of the Public Prosecutor (Court Archives), of the cities of the former Crostolo Department (1806-1814);

– the Civil Registry files of the Reggio Emilia Court (1848-1945);

– the Civil Registry files of the Guastalla Sub-prefecture (1852-1865).

Army census

The Reggio Emilia Province Recruitment fileshold the Recruitment Lists (classes of 1840-1916). The sources for the following years (1917-1943) are held at the Modena State Archive. In these registries the military authorities indicated the maternity, paternity, address, occupation, physical features and the outcome of the recruitment examination (able, reformed, extended exemption) of each recruit. The same kind of sources can be found at the file known as Guastalla Circumscription Recruitment files (classes of 1840-1880).

The Draft Cards of the recruits of the 1874-1943 classes are hold at the Modena State Archive. The files are currently been organized and are only partly available for consultation.

ISTORECO Reggio Emilia gli Albi della Memoria. The Municipality of Reggio Emilia’s Archive Centre, managed by the ISTORECO company, has made available the registers of fallen soldiers in the province of Reggio Emilia from all wars from 1820 to 1945, as well as deported civilians and interned soldiers from the Second World War (1940-45) and anti-fascist political persecuted.

Marital status

The State Archives of Bologna preserve the copies of the acts produced by the Civil Status Office of the Department of the Reno(from 1806 to 1815, with precedents from 1805 for the canton of Budrio), which transcribed births, marriages and deaths in duplicate. The documents received at the State Archives of Bologna constitute the copy accompanied by attachments and deposited annually at the Chancellery of the Court of Civil and Criminal Justice. For the period 1866-1899, the State Archives of Bologna also keeps copies of the birth, citizenship, marriage and death registers of the Civil Status of the Municipality of Bologna, in the copy deposited at the Chancellery of the Court, including the attachments.

Draft lists

The State Archives of Bologna preserve the documentation produced by the District Conscription Councilfor the Napoleonic period (1802-1814), which includes, among other things, registers and lists of conscription, with the relative indexes. With reference to the birth classes of those called up for conscription, it also keeps the conscription lists and sometimes the summary registers of the conscription boards as well as other registers produced by the District conscription offices District levarial offices in Bologna (1839-1948), Cento (1887-1910), Cesena (1839-1870), Faenza (1839-1879), Forlì (1839-1870), Imola, Lugo, Ravenna (1839-1879), Rimini (1839-1870), Rocca San Casciano (1839-1879) and Vergato (1839-1884).

Matriculation sheets and roles

The documentation preserved in the State Archives of Bologna and produced by the Military district of Bologna consists of the matriculation rolls for the district for the birth classes from 1862 to 1945 (with antecedents from 1857); mixed in with the Bologna rolls are those of Ravenna for the years 1876, 1879-1893 and 1921-1932. The State Archives of Bologna also preserve the matriculation rolls produced by the Military District of Ferrara(1876-1945).

In addition to the registers of roles, the alphabetical rubrics of freshmen are also preserved for both funds.

Civil registry

The Massa State Archive holds the Civil Registry files of the Garfagnana (1852-1865) and the Civil Registry files of the Lunigiana(1852-1865)

Army census

The Archive holds the Lunigiana parmense Recruitment Council (classes of 1828-1839), whose headquarters were in Pontremoli during the period in which Pontremoli belang to the Parma and Piacenza Duchy and the Anexed States. The Castelnuovo de Garfagnana Recruitment Council (classes of 1829-1839). The Recruitment Lists of the Massa Estense Principate (classes of 1829-1839) are held in a separate file, which has not yet been inventoried. For the Italian period the Massa Recruitment Office file holds the Recruitment Lists of the male residents of the Massa and Pontremoli circumscriptions (classes of 1843-1923). The Recruitment Lists of the next military classes are held in the Florence State Archive.

The Massa Carrara Military District file holds the fascicles (classes of 1843-1920) and Draft Cards (classes of 1872-1920).

The Massa State Archives have published online the Matriculation Sheets of the classes from 1875 to 1940. The Pontremoli Section of the State Archive holds the file called Pontremoli City Registry (1799-1860) and the Civil Registry files of the Pontremoli Napoleonic Subprefecture (1812-1813). The Pontremoli Courtholds the Civil Registry files for the pre-unification period (1849-1865).

The State Archives of Vicenza hold the following fonds:

Civil Status of the Department of the Bacchiglione, the Napoleonic Civil Status from 1806 to 1815 of the municipalities included in the following cantons of the Napoleonic Department of the Bacchiglione is preserved:
District I of Vicenza: canton I of Vicenza; canton II of Camisano; canton III of Arzignano; canton IV of Valdagno; canton V of Barbarano
District II of Schio: canton I of Schio; canton II of Tiene; canton III of Malo

For the department of Brenta, the Napoleonic civil status of the canton of Cittadella, in the current Province of Padua, is preserved.

Italian Civil Status: the Vicenza State Archives hold the Italian Civil Status of the municipalities in the province of Vicenza from 1 September 1871 to 1906, with documents up to 1950. Digital reproductions of the attachments of Citizenships, Marriages, Marriage Publications, Births and Deaths are published on the Ancestor Portal.

The remaining part of the fund for the years 1906 – 1963 was paid by the Court of Vicenza in 2020 and is currently deposited at the State Archives of Verona. Digital reproductions of documents on deposit in Verona are available, within the limits established by current legislation on the processing of personal data, at the Study Room of the State Archives in Vicenza.

Draft lists

The Recruitment Lists are filed in two archives:

Conscription lists of VicenzaThe conscription lists (classes 1848 – 1946) registered in the municipalities of the entire province of Vicenza are preserved.

– Conscription lists of Vicenza conscription (classes 1806-1862) in the municipalities of Vicenza district only;

The personal information appears in these lists only from the 1873 class on. This information is particularly useful for genealogic research, since it contains the names of the parents and the birthplace.

Matriculation sheets and roles

The Vicenza Draft Cards file holds the Draft Cards and military records (classes of 1850-1931) of the privates and non-commissioned officers.

There is also an envelope of Air Force personnel files relating to the classes from 1893 to 1902 and documentation on women who were recognised as ‘partisans‘.

Online Sources.

The Institute provides a database for the consultation of military conscription lists for the classes 1873-1901 and matriculation rolls for the classes 1892; 1897; 1898; 1899; 1914. In addition, a database is available with the list of notaries whose deeds are kept in the State Archives or in the Bassano del Grappa Archive Section. They cover a chronological span from 1361 to 1914 and concern localities in the current province of Vicenza and some municipalities in the provinces of Treviso (Asolo and Castelfranco), Belluno (Quero and Fener), Padua (Cittadella) and Venice (Noale). Another database concerning wills from 1408 to around 1850 from the Acts of the Notaries of Vicenza. There were 6136 notaries active in the district of Vicenza between the years 1359 and 1914. The documentary production packaged in registers, volumes, files and cassettes occupies a linear space of more than 600 metres in the State Archives’ repositories.
