Marital status

The State Archives of Rome holds the following civil status fonds:
– Napoleonic Civil Status Acts (1810-1814) : consisting of civil status acts of Rome and its district, and a small appendix of parish books (1565- 1849) that arrived at the State Archives along with the rest of the fonds.
– Civil Status of Rome and Province (1871-1929): the fund was disbursed by the Court of Rome in several tranches in 2006-2007 and consisted of Italian Civil Status records (birth, death, marriage, indexes) related to Rome and the municipalities of the Province.
Due to lack of space in the State Archives repositories, the records were outsourced to the company Iron Mountain and stored at a repository in Aprilia where in 2011, due to a fire, all the records were destroyed. To remedy this loss, the ‘Family Search’ association launched a digitization campaign in 2015 to digitize the ‘first originals’ kept in the municipalities of the Province of Rome.

Draft lists

The fonds of the State Archives of Rome: Lever Office of Rome (1850-1947), consisting of conscription lists, draw lists and decisions of the Lever Council; Lever Office of the Civitavecchia District (1850-1899), consisting of conscription lists, draw lists and decisions of the Lever Council.

Matriculation sheets and roles

The Orvieto Military District fund (which also includes municipalities in the province of Rieti), on the other hand, contains matricular rolls and alphabetical rubrics (classes 1859-1895), with records of military service performed, enlistment corps, and war campaigns up to discharge; there are also rolls of the Voluntary Militia of National Security for the classes 1881-1915. The draft cards of the recruits of the Rome circumscritpion (classes of 1843-1939) can be found at theRome Military District.
