Girolamo Sotgiu, family and politics
The film collection traces some moments in the life of the Sotgiu family between the 1950s and the 1960s in Sassari and Cagliari, the cities where the family lived from the end of the 1940s onwards, but especially in Punta Timone, on the island of Tavolara, where the Sotgiu family used to spend the summer. Some of the films document Girolamo Sotgiu’s political activity in Sardinia and Rome.
Girolamo Sotgiu (La Maddalena, 1915 – Cagliari, 1996) shot all his films in 8mm format in black and white and in colour.
The research and in-depth work was made possible thanks to interviews given between 2017 and 2019 by one of the filmmaker’s daughters, Maria Federica Sotgiu.
It is possible to retrace the history of the Sotgiu family through the video edition of the Girolamo Sotgiu film collection created with Klynt software.
