Scaroni and 1930s Italy
The film collection traces moments in the life of the Scaroni family between 1934 and 1947 in several locations in Italy and Tripolitania. In particular, in Italy, the places frequented and documented by the films are those of their residences and holidays, such as Breganze (Vi), Cesenatico, the Lido di Venezia, Venice, Genoa, Ortisei di Val Gardena and Desenzano del Garda, while in Tripolitania, the city of Tripoli and its surroundings. The Scaronis spent some periods of the year in Tripoli as Avv. Giovanni Battista Scaroni had bought a number of agricultural concessions in various Libyan locations in Tripolitania in the early 1930s.
Giovanni Battista Scaroni (Thiene, 1890 – Desenzano del Garda 1965) shot all his films in 9.5mm Pathé Baby format.
The research and in-depth work was made possible thanks to interviews given between 2017 and 2019 by a granddaughter of the filmmaker, Luisa Scaroni, and thanks to the conspicuous documentation relating to the life and professional activity of her grandfather Giovanni Battista Scaroni, made available by Scaroni herself for consultation.
It is possible to retrace the history of the Scaroni family through the video edition of the Giovanni Battista Scaroni film fund created with Klynt software.
