Civil registry
Until the establishment of the Civil Registry in Italy in 1865, in Piamonte the registry was a task carried out by priests. The State Archives in Turin hold the records of the Napoleonic civil status (1804-1813) for the municipalities of the Turin district alone. The Archive contains birth, marriage, and death certificates of the cities in which the Civil Registry was established.
Army census
The recruitment sources for the unitary period show the model of military organization that soon will be established in the whole Italian territory. The pre-unitarian archives, particularly those from the Ministry of War, hold recruitment files, draft cards of privates and non-commissioned officers, and lists that contain the names of wounded, dead awarded soldiers and draft dodgers. All the files are gathered in big sections called: Human Resources Division (1815-1860) Recruitmen Division (1816-1860), Extended exemption and Disable Division (1816-1853), Archive Division(1816-1853), Military Genius Division (1854-1860), General Quartermaster of the Navy – General Archive(1848-1861), Lombard Army (1848-1854), Alps Jägers (1859), Apennines Jägers(1859), Magra Jägers and Reggio Brigade (1859-1860) Modena Brigade (1859-1860), General Directorate of Infantry and Cavalry, General Directorate of Special corps (1859-1866), General Directorate of Recruitment (1860-1870), Southern Italian Army (1860-1864), Italian Volunteers (1866- late 19th century), Mille di Marsala (1860-1863), Sicilian Military Archive (1860-1861), Ministry of Navy – personnel and material (1815-1860).
